3 teens arrested after acid attack on 6 women in New Jersey

Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with an acid attack on six women in Jersey City, New Jersey, last month, public safety officials said.

The women were splashed with sulfuric acid on June 15 when people on a moped targeted them in their car as they drove by, officials said.

“All six victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries that included skin burns and peeling,” said Kim Wallace Scalcione, a spokesperson for the Jersey City Public Safety Department.

Three teens, 13, 14 and 15 years old, were arrested, Scalcione said, without saying when.

They each are accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury and additional crimes.

The Public Safety Department said the incident appears to have been targeted and “may have stemmed from an earlier dispute among a large group.”

It previously said five women were injured but clarified in an update that there are six victims, including three teens.

One of the victims, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to a burn unit last month “to be treated for second-degree burns to her face and scalp,” Scalcione said.

The investigation continues, officials said.
